Their expertise provides them the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects including retail, office, hotel, institutional, multi-family, industrial park planning, park design, research / planning and residential design. SMR has many projects in Texas and throughout the United States.
The firm's staff of four design professionals and two support staff allow SMR to service the client's requirements, and SMR takes pride in their history of meeting project deadlines and budget. SMR provides most required services in-house.

Steven M. Rahn, Principal-in-Charge
Mr. Rahn founded SMR Landscape Architecture in 1989 and is President and Design Principal of the firm. Over the past 28 years, his career emphasis has been on site landscape design solutions for retail, multi-family, mix use, urban design, corporate, office and education. Mr. Rahn is involved in every facet of the site design process including project acquisition, site design, hardscape and softscape detailing, hand graphic rendering, presentation, collaboration and construction administration. Mr. Rahn’s projects are located throughout the United States, holding licenses in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia and Arkansas.
Steve graduated from The University of Texas-Arlington with a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 1982 and specialized in site design and urban design. He is a member of UTA’s Advisory Council of Landscape Architecture. In addition, Steve is a member of the Board of Directors at The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society and has chaired the Architecture and Construction Committee and the Gardens and Grounds Committee. Steve and his wife/business partner live in Dallas.
Brian D. Adams, Principal
Mr. Adams joined SMR 1991 as and intern and has dedicated his time and effort to become a Principal. Over the past 24 years, his career emphasis has been on site landscape design solutions for office, retail, multi-family, education, corporate, and parks. Mr. Adams is involved in every aspect of the office operations including design, proposal development, quality control, and production. Mr. Adams is licensed in Texas.
Mr. Adams attended The University of Texas-Arlington where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science - Landscape Architecture.
Matt Taylor, Senior Associate
Matt Taylor joined SMR Landscape Architects in 2004 and has served as Project Manager, Associate, and now Senior Associate. Over the past 12 years he has been involved in all aspects of project development from schematic design, site design, hardscape and softscape detailing, computer graphic rendering, presentation, construction documentation and construction administration. Project experience has included office, retail, hospitality, multi-family, residential, education, corporate, roof top gardens, streetscapes, and parks throughout the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex and elsewhere in the United States. Mr. Taylor is licensed in Arkansas and Texas.
Mr. Taylor graduated from The University of Arkansas – School of Architecture, with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture.
Brian Cooper, Junior Associate
Brian Cooper recently joined SMR after moving here from San Antonio in 2018. He graduated from the University of Maryland with his Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture in 2016. He has experience both in the office and out on job sites. His previous job site experience includes doing garden installation, maintenance, and green roof installation in the Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia areas. Mr. Cooper is involved in assisting with design development, construction documentation, presentations, marketing, and rendering. He also has an Associate’s Degree in Computer-Aided Design.
